Black at it! is a voice app about Black history, invention, and community. You tap a mic, you talk, an AI voice answers. This page explains — in plain English — what happens to your data.

The short version: No account. No ads. No trackers. We don't sell your data. Your voice is sent to our speech provider so the app can hear and reply — we don't record or store your conversations.

What we collect

Your voice, while a conversation is running. When you tap the mic, your audio is streamed to our speech provider (ElevenLabs) so the app can understand you and respond. This only happens while a conversation is active.
A random device ID. On first launch the app generates a random identifier and stores it on your device. We use it for one thing: counting how many conversations you've started today, so we can apply a daily limit. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account.
Reports you send. If you use "Report a response," we receive the reason you picked, any details you type, and your random device ID.

What we don't collect

No name, email, phone number, or account — the app doesn't ask you to sign up.
No location, contacts, photos, or health data.
No advertising identifiers, and no third-party ad or analytics trackers.
We do not record, store, or listen to your conversations on our servers.

Who processes your data

ElevenLabs — powers the app's speech recognition and voice. Your conversation audio is transmitted to and processed by ElevenLabs. Their handling of that audio is governed by their own privacy policy: elevenlabs.io/privacy.
Render — hosts the small backend that authorizes each conversation and applies the daily limit.

That's the entire list. We don't share your data with anyone else, and we never sell it. ElevenLabs is contractually and by policy required to protect the audio it processes to a standard equal to what's described on this page — see their privacy policy linked above for their commitments.

Microphone

Black at it! asks for microphone access because it's a talking app — that's the whole product. The mic is only active while a conversation is running, and stops the moment it ends. You can revoke access anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone (the app simply won't work without it).

Content & accuracy

Answers are AI-generated and aim to be historically accurate and sourced — but AI can still get details or numbers wrong. For hard statistics, the app is designed to point you toward primary sources (FBI, U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Justice Statistics, Pew Research) rather than assert precision it doesn't have. If something reads wrong, use "Report a response" in the app; reports are reviewed and the agent gets corrected.

Children

Black at it! is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Your choices

Reset your device ID: delete and reinstall the app, and a new random ID is generated. There's nothing else tied to you to delete.
Stop all data flow: don't start a conversation, or revoke microphone access.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
